10 Most Embarrassing Product Placements In Wrestling History
2. Mountain Dew Wrecks Bray Wyatt’s Return
Meanwhile, this was a farce from beginning to end.
The splash advertising for Mountain Dew, and the corny "Pitch Black" gimmick that WWE didn't really even understand or care to explain to fans, wrecked Bray Wyatt's first match back in the company. He'd returned the prior year, and anticipation was high for Royal Rumble 2023's re-debut.
WWE spoiled the whole affair by plopping a tacky Mountain Dew logo on the ring canvas, and by dominating build for the bout with pesky product placement. Fans can tolerate a bit of that, but one would think that Dew was more important to the scenario than either Wyatt or LA Knight.
Worse, the match was a flop in-ring and turned into some neon-soaked homage to 'The Fiend's' worst matches from a few years back. Did anyone really think using Bray's comeback showing (one he and LA worked hard to promote properly) would be better for blasting folks in the face with soft drink promos?
What's next? Dew McIntyre?
