WWE: 10 Most Famous Loser Leaves Town Retirement Matches
3. John Cena vs. CM Punk (Money In The Bank 2011)
One of the most famous and critically acclaimed matches of the modern era. CM Punk, who was in the midst of turning his behind the scenes grievances with WWE into storyline fodder, had gone public with the fact that his contract would expire at midnight immediately following the conclusion of the Money in the Bank ppv. He delivered the now-infamous "pipe bomb" promo where he proceeded to air the company's dirty laundry and take shots at WWE management while threatening to win the belt and leave with it, and the anticipation for this match was off the charts. Speculation at the time was that Punk was very serious about walking away when his contract was up, and many people expected John Cena to leave Punk's hometown of Chicago with the championship still around his waist, especially considering Vince McMahon upped the ante by stating he would fire Cena if he lost. For his part, Punk walked the fine line between kayfabe and reality and even the most jaded of smart fans wasn't sure what would happen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8iyf0ErBfM The match was fantastic, yet another example of the awesome chemistry the two performers have with each other. When Punk hit Cena with the GTS and pinned him for the title, the roof of the Allstate Arena blew clean off.
