10 Most Gloriously Overbooked Matches In Wrestling History

10. Everyone Hates AJ Styles

A wrestler€™s final match in the company they helped to put on the map should be an emotional journey that allows the fan-base to share as much time as possible with one of their favorite performers before they gracefully ride into the sunset. For AJ Styles, his final TNA match was a friendly reminder from the company that his decision to wrestle on the other side of the world was indeed the right one. AJ€™s world title unification match against Magnus should have been your basic passing of the torch moment that allowed the Phenomenal One to exit with grace and let a younger talent get some shine on them. Instead, it takes less than 30 seconds for nearly every heel in the company to rush the ring and beat down AJ Styles before he can apply a headlock. This being a no-disqualification match, everyone in attendance just watches as AJ€™s finale becomes a drawn out beat-down meant to put over a competitor that apparently can€™t win without the help of roughly fourteen other wrestlers. Yet the best part of this match may be the role of referee Earl Hebner. At first, he begins a non-violent protest of the event by slow counting every AJ pinfall before just straight up leaving the match. After his heel referee replacement is taken out by the interfering heel gang (naturally), Earl rushes back to the ring with all the enthusiasm of a man taking his death row march. AJ€™s post-match farewell speech delivered in the tone of Dobby celebrating his freedom is the bow atop this spectacular excess of awful booking decisions.
