10 Most Hated Wrestling Matches Involving Beloved Wrestlers

6. The Undertaker Vs. Gonzalez (WWE WrestleMania IX)

Giant Gonzalez is the prime example of the disasters that can ensue when a wrestler is hired for height rather than skill. It is no coincidence those criticising smaller wrestlers evoke The Undertaker and Kane rather than Gonzalez and The Great Khali.

Gonzalez was a joke on arrival. A giant bound in Junior School anatomy diagrams, with a blank but somehow grosser old man buttocks, which would cause Triple H to lay off CM Punk’s derriere.

After the peculiar sight of ‘Taker having to look up to an opponent, the match offered little else. Gonzalez sold like a drunk when the lights come on for closing time, and the match stalled with a chinlock that seemed to be applied for the length of the Roman Empire. The match reached its welcome end when Gonzalez was disqualified for using a chloroform-soaked rag.

Thankfully, with ‘Taker’s 21 match undefeated streak, certain tallies can be lost amongst amazing performances. His WrestleMania IX encounter is predominantly remembered for the visual of ‘The Deadman’ entering on a chariot pulled by buff gladiators while accompanied by a vulture.
