10 Most Impactful WWE Draft Picks

7. The NWO To Raw (2002)

Kevin Nash Scott Hall X-Pac nWo 2002

Professional wrestling drafts are a weird thing. If you’re drafting in the world of sports, you get one person per pick. In the squared circle, you can sometimes get two (if they hold the tag belts), or three (if they were three guys that once helped kill WCW). In 2002, Vince McMahon decided that Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and X-Pac could all be taken as a unit, because they had matching shirts...or something.

Now, the pick was a complete and absolute bust. Nash was injured for most of his run with the group, Hall got fired, and X-Pac was just kind of X-Pac. But it’s because of those unfortunate situations that lead to some massive changes. With Hall and Hulk Hogan out of the NWO completely, the company needed something to keep them afloat and called in Shawn Michaels to join the stable.

However, Nash hurt himself again and Vince decided to just kill the entire group. Huh. Why did no one in WCW ever think of that when they were trying to take over the company? But with Michaels back on TV, he soon went to battle with HHH (where they quickly reversed their roles in the heel/face spectrum). It lead to HBK pretty miraculously becoming a full-time act again for years, where he delivered some of his best work. And it was all thanks to a terrible, terrible pick.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
