Hey, remember when Lucha Underground was a thing? Good times...

Lucha Underground was a promotion that first rose to prominence in 2014. They were different from their competition, because of the themes of mythology and the supernatural that ran throughout, featuring big stars from the independent scene like Ricochet, Jeff Cobb, and Shane Strickland, but given new names and characters.

The promotion was pretty popular, owing a lot of its success to its high-quality in-ring work and unique structure. However, it was also popular because it managed to conquer the mystical world of Netflix.

In 2017, the promotion signed a deal with the streaming service to show its first two seasons in the US and Canada.

Whilst Lucha Underground had previously been on the El Rey Network in the USA, moving to Netflix was a huge deal for the company as it put even more eyes on the product and the worlds of lucha libre and pro wrestling in general.

The Netflix deal has since collapsed and Lucha Underground's future seems uncertain, but, for a brief moment, it looked like we could have had a real mainstream hit emanating from the Temple.
