10 Most Improved Wrestlers Of 2017

6. Neville

Neville has always been an outstanding wrestler.

One of his generation's most dazzling high-flyers, his invention and athleticism have never been in doubt, but the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion is no spot monkey. His technical work and undersold power game positioned him among the world's most complete performers, but there were still questions over his character and microphone work heading into 2017.

This was the year the Geordie became a star. His December 2016 heel turn unlocked vaults of personality that seemed non-existent before, and Neville fast became the lowly 205 Live brand's sole highlight, delivering some of the company's most compelling feuds and matches.

Neville's 'King Of The Cruiserweights' shtick is one of WWE's best modern gimmicks. Angry, arrogant, and aggressive, the sneering former champion was outstanding in his role as 205's ace, and was performing to main event standard by spring. This should've resulted in a major push up the rankings, but WWE opted to keep Neville grounded in his niche division instead, triggering his eventual walkout. Their reticence to push the cruiserweight standout may have cost them a potentially huge star - let's hope he lands in a promotion willing to recognise his talents if things aren't resolved.
