The Andersons are one of wrestling's greatest fake families, but Gene, one of their founding members, was the only genuine Anderson of the bunch. He initially teamed with his "brother" Lars (real name Larry Heinemi), and the duo were later joined by another false sibling in Ole (Alan Rogowski), and later Arn (Marty Lunde), their apparent cousin.

The crew were a huge success together, and amassed dozens of different national and regional tag team championship reigns between them. Ole and Arn were initially paired with the intent of following in Gene and Lars' footsteps as a duo, with promoter Jim Crockett originally putting them together because they looked alike. They embarked upon a lengthy NWA Tag Team Championship reign in 1985, during which they helped form one of wrestling's most influential stables, The Four Horsemen.

Ole and Arn were joined by Tully Blanchard and Ric Flair, who they claimed was another cousin of the family. As a result, Ric's children David and Charlotte are also part of the apocryphal wrestling dynasty in kayfabe terms, with former ECW wrestler C.W. Anderson also claiming family membership earlier in his career, though he was, like everyone else with the surname, completely unrelated.
