6. [Wrestler X] Can Bring Prestige Back To The Intercontinental Title

The Intercontinental Title and the long-time WWE fan share a special relationship.

As beautiful a belt as the legendary matches that contested for it, those fans came of age when watching Savage Vs. Steamboat, Hart Vs. Perfect, Michaels Vs. Razor—genuine, immortal classics that doubled as a generation’s pure education throughout their pro wrestling adolescence.

That relationship is now toxic.

Where we yearn for the days where it meant something, Vince isn’t particularly fussed about our beloved concepts of sublime wrestling and mapping the trajectory of prospective headliners that we really care for—and if he did, Baron Corbin probably wouldn’t appear on a third of Monday Night RAW every single f*cking week. Nobody is going to bring prestige back to the Intercontinental Title; it’s copy-and-paste scripted promo material. Luke Harper is a former holder, and he can’t even do a southern accent. And yet, many people continue to project this sentiment onto a company that isn’t particularly sentimental.

“Who died, again? Oh. Did they enjoy a kinship with unapologetic racist Hulk Hogan, thus allowing us to bring him back? No? Memorial graphic. Unless I don’t care on a given day.”
