For nearly six months, AJ Lee made it her goal to prove her superiority over the cast of Total Divas and did so by defeating them countless times to retain her Divas Championship. Brie lost two high-profile matches to WWE's resident black widow in fall 2013 while Nikki was defeated shortly after returning from a serious knee injury. Still, they refused to allow their reputations to be soiled by the champion, who took great glee in running down the reality TV stars. This, despite the fact that the sisters had shown tremendous growth and development as performers in the months following their return. The feud stretched all the way into spring 2014, when it was announced that AJ would defend her historic title reign against any Diva willing to enter the Divas Invitational Match at WrestleMania XXX. Among those women were Brie and Nikki, two women who figured to be favorites to knock AJ off her pedestal and end her championship run. That would not be the case, however, as AJ proved her resourcefulness and retained her title. It was a frustrating night for the sisters but one that would improve significantly moments later when Brie's then-fiancee and Nikki's future brother-in-law Daniel Bryan captured the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
