2. Vince McMahon Announces Randy Savage's Departure
Date: November 7th Now, wrestling fans are used to the "future endeavors" line being used for wrestlers that WWE gets rid of, and they're also used to wrestlers themselves tweeting or posting on Facebook about their departures, sometimes before the news is even made public. Back in 1994, though, when a wrestler left a company, you just didn't see them anymore, and you were left to draw your own conclusions most of the time. That's what made Vince McMahon's announcement that Randy Savage had left the company so different and so unique. It didn't take up a whole lot of time on the show, and was basically done in passing, but it caught everyone watching off-guard. Savage was what? He wasn't with the WWF anymore? An entire generation of wrestling fans had grown up with Savage in the WWF, and with this coming a year after Hulk Hogan had left the company, these fans didn't know what to do. Hogan had debuted for WCW by this point, but would Savage do so, as well? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8dB6ISezuI You could almost see the hurt in Vince's eyes as he mentioned Savage leaving and then wishing him all the best in whatever he was to do in the future. That really goes with all the stories about how Savage leaving upset Vince more than any other "defector", and how Vince saw Randy as something of a little brother. It was a glimpse into real emotion that we just didn't get to see from Vince back then.
