10 Most Old School Wrestlers Of WWE's Modern Era
7. The Worker
Jon Good has been a student of wrestling history since he was a kid, obsessing over the minutiae of character and performance whether playing Jon Moxley on the independent circuit or Dean Ambrose in WWE. That’s not to say he’s a technical wrestling fanatic, but that he’s always prized authenticity in his work.
“To me, it's very important that everything I do is real; it always has been to me. Everything I do is real or it's really a reflection of me. I've never been a completely 100 percent fictional character.” - The Classical, January 2014
What that means is, like ‘the Macho Man’ Randy Savage and ‘the American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes - even like ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, to an extent - ‘the Lunatic Fringe’ Dean Ambrose is always on. Whether in the ring or backstage, on camera or off, in front of an audience or in an interview, Ambrose is always in character. He’s been doing it so long that it’s become second nature.
That’s gotten him in some hot water with veterans who think he’s taking himself too seriously - or worse, taking the mickey out of them with his method acting mindset. But that’s the old school mentality for you: you protect your character, your gimmick, by becoming it. In 2016, you can barely put a hair between Jon Good and Dean Ambrose - and that’s just the way he likes it.
