4. Mankind Vs. The Undertaker (King Of The Ring ‘98)

It’s impossible to talk about Mick Foley or The Undertaker without bringing King Of The Ring 1998 up. The sight of Mankind plummeting from Hell In A Cell and through the announce table below remains an iconic image, and the Chokeslam through the cage roof is even more dramatic, as it was completely unplanned by the wrestlers. As an actual wrestling match, however, Mankind vs. ‘Taker was all about these two spots and nothing else.

The bout was incredibly poorly paced, with both of Foley’s big moments coming within the first few minutes. It’s miraculous that he was able to return to action afterwards, and it’s obviously not their fault that the cage roof gave way on the Chokeslam, but the falls knocked Foley loopy. As a result, when the “action” finally begins about 10 minutes into the match, it’s sloppy, uncoordinated, and an absolute chore to watch.

Foley deserves all the credit in the world for putting his body on the line at KOTR ‘98, and he left with a horrendous list of injuries. He and ‘Taker created a couple of moments that’ll be replayed in video packages for eternity, but the match itself was a shambles.
