WWE will have you believe that Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant is one of the greatest wrestling matches of all time.

Most fans have fortunately clocked that this isn’t the case, but there are still those who want you to believe that because this contest produced one of wrestling’s most iconic moments, it’s a stone cold classic. This just isn’t the case, and even for the time period, Hogan vs. Andre is no more than 12 minutes of excruciating boredom.

Hogan slamming Andre is as incredible today as it was back then, but the work is atrocious. Andre was far too beat up and immobile to put on a convincing performance at this stage of his career, and while ‘The Hulkster’ worked hard to make it watchable, he just couldn’t pull it off.

The crowd were on fire, but try watching this on the WWE Network without wanting to turn it off within five minutes. Its historical importance can’t be denied, but the match is a dud, with the overlong bearhug sequence proving particularly tedious.

Sure, the spectacle takes precedent, but as far as the actual wrestling goes, this might be the worst WrestleMania main event of all time.
