10 Most Overrated (And Overused) WWE Gimmick Matches

4. Hell In A Cell

Once the most fearsome set-piece in the WWE landscape, Hell in a Cell became the biggest victim of WWE's fascination with concept events, with at least one match guaranteed to be held inside the structure every October since the eponymous pay-per-view was launched in 2009.

Unfortunately for fans and the performers forced to do battle inside the cell, expectations for the match are almost always measured entirely on the legacy left behind by some of the historic first wars.

The reality of course, is that it remains grossly unfair to expect Roman Reigns and Rusev to have a US Title match open a pay-per-view and deliver as graphic and emotive a match as Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker. Nor is it feasible to expect that Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins can contest a stunt-show on par with Mick Foley's against Triple H or The Undertaker.

With fan service a virtual impossibility, and an irreversible over-indulgence in the stipulation, what remains is the comically daring, as Shane McMahon proved with his ludicrous dive from the structure at the close of his interminable WrestleMania clash with The Undertaker.
