10 Most Prestigious Titles In American Wrestling Right Now
5. AEW Tag Team Championship
It's not a long shot to say that over parts of All Elite Wrestling's first few years, they cultivated possibly the greatest tag team division in wrestling history.
The Young Bucks. Omega & Page. SCU. FTR. Lucha Bros. Pride N' Powerful. Not to mention the younger, up and coming teams like Private Party (remember them?), Jurassic Express, The Acclaimed, Top Flight etc. The list goes on.
It was one of Tony Khan's biggest middle fingers to Vince McMahon, that not only did he make AEW destination television for tag team wrestling, he crafted intricate matches around a format that the former WWE CEO thought long dead. The tag team division was the stand out offering in AEW.
It's just a shame that after two really good years, the last one hasn't been so kind. After winning an incredible cage match at All Out 2021, the Lucha Bros had a lacklustre title reign that ended unceremoniously to Jurassic Express. The booking since then has been pretty dull, with random three way matches dominating the division, and it's taken an organic rise of The Acclaimed to bring them back to a bit more prominence.
Truthfully, the introduction of the AEW Trios Championships has hurt the division. Think back, a year ago, The Bucks and the Lucha Bros went to war for the tag belts. Now, they'd rather enter a best of 7 for a different set of belts.
Unintentionally, it makes the tag belts seem less important.
