In 1996, the prospect of a Hulk Hogan heel turn was nil. As Vince McMahon described him so perfectly years later, Hogan was a slice of Americana.

Bobby Heenan's infamous "Whose side is he on?" comment, as Hogan made his way to the ring at Bash At The Beach 1996, is weirdly remembered as a near-giveaway - but a turn was inconceivable. Most read it as typically brilliant, wrong-headed Heenan.

And then it happened: Hogan dropped the leg on Randy Savage and formed the New World Order to an an eruption of pure shock from the crowd. To WCW's credit, the entire scene was a production masterclass; there is so much to process and savour that it's little wonder it is as iconic as it as eminently replay-able. Referee Randy Anderson threw his hands over his head in awe before Hogan threw him out of the ring. Scott Hall counted the pin. An incensed Tony Schiavone refused to acknowledge the result. Not even bothering to win the match was an awesome, overlooked statement of intent from this revolutionary band of renegades.

The resulting promo was the greatest Hogan ever cut - and the disgusted WCW crowd moonlighted as production staffers as they showered the ring with garbage.
