4. "Those Eyes Lust Elizabeth!"

The superb Mega Powers Implosion remains the standard bearer of all wrestling angles.

The emotional range was astonishing; Hogan, infuriated at Savage slapping and returning the favour of abandoning him to the might of the Twin Towers, marched into the first aid room - in which months' worth of tension boiled over. Hogan's impotent rage and upstanding confusion fooled a generation of Hollywood executives. Savage, meanwhile, was barely acting; he was so protective of and paranoid over Elizabeth, the source of storyline discord, that real life hostility bled into art with seamless realism. Savage might as well have battered his own demons as he sent Hogan careening across the room. It was dark stuff, too. Savage threatened to "splatter" Elizabeth all over Hogan before throwing her into offscreen oblivion. An hilariously ineffective Brutus Beefcake cameo only added another texture to it all.

Much of Hogan's cartoonish 1980s output is better left remembered by the mind's eye; scrutinised too closely, his technical limitations and carny contrivances become all too transparent.

This was an entirely different, none too real beast.
