10 Most Realistic Wrestlers In The World Right Now

6. Kento Miyahara

Ilja Dragunov
AJPW

All Japan's ace puts his background in Judo to good use between the ropes, peppering his matches with slick takedowns and suplexes. At a glance, the youngest ever AJPW Triple Crown Champion's move set may look a little basic by modern standards. However, his reliance on simpler, more traditional offence is actually one of his greatest strengths.

Nothing in his matches ever looks overly worked. In place of jaw-dropping stunts or spine-jarring bumps, Miyahara keeps things grounded in reality, relying on sympathy-building selling and plausible, gritty offence. The result is an immersive, believable style of wrestling that allows audiences to grow attached to the characters and storytelling going on.

His Shutdown Suplex is testament to how brutal a well delivered German suplex can be. Hoisting struggling opponents up by the waist, Miyahara backbends all the way on to his head, slamming his foe's skull and neck into the mat. It's all done so crisply and so viciously that one can't help but wince for both participants' necks.

His strikes are of a similar quality. Known for his gut-bustingly hard knee shots and high kicks, the crowd favourite's ruthless aggression provides the competitive mean streak wrestling needs to be believable. It helps too that he's a natural showman who knows just how to connect with the often jaded AJPW faithful.
