5. Doug Gilbert's Proto Pipebomb

Doug Gilbert caused such a furore with this unscheduled promo that the WWF stopped sending their developmental talents to the Memphis-based Power Pro Wrestling, which itself closed its doors shortly afterwards.

Gilbert's revelations were earth-shattering. He confirmed the industry whispers that Brian Christopher was Jerry Lawler's son before going one further and alleging that Lawler himself "Raped a little thirteen year old girl," alluding to an accusation (later retracted) that Lawler had sodomised and raped a minor.

He also accused PPW part-owner Randy Hales of smoking crack cocaine in the control room before wheeling away, cackling as he went.

Gilbert later explained his actions in a shoot interview with RF Video. Gilbert was incensed by some skits filmed by Christopher and Harry Del Rios, who dressed up as him in what Gilbert referred to as "not money-drawing heat". Christopher and Del Rios also dressed up as Gilbert's parents and took shots at his deceased brother Eddie, which enraged him so apoplectically that he vented in spectacular, kayfabe-breaking fashion.

He attributes some of his poor form to the fourteen hour flight he'd just endured, and has since apologised for the dig at Lawler.
