In the chaos that was the Summer of Punk storyline from 2011, Kevin Nash found himself involved. Originally set to feud with Punk, Nash was unable to get medical clearance in time for Night of Champions, and thus, Kliq-mate Triple H picked up the slack. However, not one to deny his buddy a payday, Hunter took on Nash at TLC in a “Sledgehammer Ladder Match,” wherein the match would end via pinfall, but if either man could climb a ladder and grab the sledgehammer hung above the ring, it was a legal weapon.

Goldberg and Scott Hall had performed a similar match for WCW back in 1999, where that match was a “Stun Gun Ladder Match,” and the objective was to retrieve a taser and zap your opponent with it. The difference between that match and the one at TLC 2011 was that Goldberg and Hall were at least both mobile. The same could not be said of Kevin Nash, whose age, massive size, and bad knees had caught up to him. Triple H, himself a big guy, had to carry the slog of an encounter. It’s one of the slowest, most plodding ladder matches you will ever see in the modern era.
