10 Most Ridiculous Wrestling Finishing Moves Ever

3. The Atomic Leg Drop

This is the move that brought a close to more WrestleMania main events than I care to count right now. It is the move that felled Andre, smashed SGT Slaughter, massacred The Macho Man and K.O€™d King Kong Bundy. Now, I€™m not quite sure what makes it €˜Atomic€™, but, when combined with a big boot to the face, the Atomic Leg Drop is probably the most successful finisher in the history of Professional Wrestling. More world titles have been won with it and more money generated from it, than probably any other finisher. ...And yet, if you think about it, it is really just a leg drop. Yes, that€™s the exact same kind of leg drop that you€™ve seen over and over again, throughout the card (and often elsewhere in the main event itself). Originally, the psychology of this move was that Hogan€™s massive, tree-trunk leg would crush the life from you when it landed on your neck, but after a while, the move was just over because Hulk Hogan was doing it.
In fairness, at the height of Hogan€™s fame, he could probably have squatted down and taken a sh*t on his opponent€™s chest and still sold out arenas with it...

I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction. I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long! If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it). I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work. Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that! Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?) Latcho Drom, - CQ
