Who would have thought that Daniel Bryan's first big WWE Title win post-retirement comeback would be such a kick in the balls?

Literally.

Alas, Bryan has ended AJ Styles' reign at 371 days and will replace him as Brock Lesnar's opponent at this weekend's Survivor Series. Whilst it was thought a change to the repeat Brock vs. AJ formula could be coming, a heel turn for one of WWE's most beloved certainly wasn't on any wish lists. That's not to say it was bad, not at all, but it wasn't exactly easy to predict despite some hints from Bryan in recent weeks.

We should be used to this by now. The underdog's career has been chock-a-block with shocking moments since he first (rather awkwardly) introduced himself as a 'rookie' on the original NXT in 2010. In the eight years since, his life has been a rollercoaster of emotions, brief flirtations with the indy scene again and a mixed bag of characterisation.

Thanks, WWE. You've either just rendered his 2K19 Showcase Mode pointless or made us all want to go back and play through it again...
