10 Most Shocking Wrestling Betrayals

8. The Mega Powers Implode

Two of the biggest and brightest stars on offer during the enormous wrestling boom of the '80s, Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage’s Mega Powers team was a huge draw. Fans went wild at the sight of the pair’s legendary handshake and immense crowd support followed the team into their matches.

Given the size of their respective egos and the fact that Randy Savage was the reigning, defending WWF Champion of the world, a split seemed inevitable. Even so, the break up was made shocking by its primary reason: Miss Elizabeth.

Savage grew increasingly uncomfortable with the closeness between his wife and Hogan. He very visibly loathed the sight of her managing Hogan and grew incensed after Hogan accidentally caused his elimination at the 1989 Royal Rumble. Furiously paranoid, Savage assaulted the Hulkster after their tag bout at The Main Event II, completely destroying their blockbuster partnership in the process.

A dramatic title feud and WrestleMania V main event followed suit as Savage descended further into heel territory. One of the great angles of the wildly successful Golden Era, Savage’s betrayal of Hogan remains a classic moment in professional wrestling history.
