Melina The team of Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury made their initial impact in Ohio Valley Wrestling, where they donned fake fur coats, sunglasses and acted as if they were huge Hollywood stars invading the world of professional wrestling. So in tune with the gimmick and so devoted to making the absolute best out of what they were given, Nitro and Mercury were clearly ready for the main roster. They got their call-up shortly after WrestleMania 21 in 2005 and instantly became WWE Tag Team champions, knocking off Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio to earn the honors. Together, they sparked a renaissance in tag team wrestling, particularly on the SmackDown brand, where they became featured players. Along with manager, the scorching hot Melina, MNM took the blue brand by storm. After splitting in 2006, Nitro went on to have quite the singles run before the team reunited late to feud with the Hardy Boyz. At December to Dismember, the first (and only) ECW-exclusive pay-per-view, the two teams met in a very lengthy, very good match that proved Nitro and Mercury could hang with one of the greatest teams in wrestling history. It was a huge confidence booster, both for the wrestlers themselves and management, who had done so much to position the duo in a featured spot. Nitro went on to have an outstanding career, both under that moniker as well as John Morrison, establishing himself as one of the most athletically gifted stars in WWE. Today, though, it is a clean and sober Mercury who works behind the scenes as an agent, prepping today's generation of young stars to succeed at the highest level possible.
