10 Most Undeserving Winners Of Vacant Wrestling Titles
1. Mideon
Topping the list, we have an entry that’s perhaps not quite as high-profile as Triple H’s maiden World Heavyweight Championship win—but
the ridiculous circumstances in which it arrived is what earns this one its
infamy.
When Mideon won the European Championship in June of 1999, the belt had previously been vacant after it was deactivated a few months prior. The reason for its decommissioning was that Shane McMahon had won the belt and decided to “retire as champion.”
So in a way, it was kind of fitting that he’d be involved in the eventual naming of the new belt-holder. What wasn’t quite so fitting though, was that the belt would be given to Mideon after he simply found it while rummaging through Shane’s bag.
Mideon slyly asked Shane if he could borrow a spare belt, Shane seemingly assumed that he wasn’t referring to a belt of the championship variety, and apparently that was enough to see him officially named the new European Champion.
Though Mideon certainly wasn’t deserving of winning the European title, I'd say this example offers evidence enough that he’s well-worthy of being branded the most undeserving winner of a vacant championship in WWE history.
