4. JBL

JBL was having a pretty eventful 2009 against some of the biggest names in WWE history heading into WrestleMania 25. He began the year in the World Heavyweight Championship scene, losing to champion John Cena at the Royal Rumble. In February, he lost to Shawn Michaels at No Way Out to end a bizarre storyline in which Shawn was his employee, and just a few weeks later, he beat CM Punk for the Intercontinental Championship on the March 9th episode of Monday Night Raw.

The very next week, Rey Mysterio issued a challenge for JBL's IC Title at WrestleMania 25. The match was set, and in two odd quirks, it was the first time Mysterio had been booked on WrestleMania since winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22, and the first time in seven years that the Intercontinental Championship had been defended at the biggest show in WWE.

With all of this narrative heading into WrestleMania 25, and considering JBL's level of backstage stroke, the match ending with Mysterio as the new Intercontinental Champion inside 30 seconds was astounding. Shockingly, this was also JBL's last singles match in WWE. The Texan only appeared once more, as a participant in the 2014 Royal Rumble.
