In January 2000, The Big Bossman was coming off an incredibly run as a phenomenal heel. He killed Al Snow's dog Pepper and fed it to him. He convinced Big Show's mother to reveal that the giant was, in fact, a bastard child. Worse yet, he poked fun at the World's Largest Athlete's dying father, then crashed his funeral and dragged the casket away behind his police car. He was despicable and easy to hate.

He entered the Royal Rumble match and, upon recognizing that Rikishi was on a roll and far too hot to risk getting in the ring with, stood around ringside, refusing to enter the squared circle. He was not willing to waste an opportunity to head to WrestleMania and challenge for the WWE Championship by testing Rikishi. Unfortunately for the former corrections officer from Cobb County, Georgia, he found himself the recipient of a beatdown at the hands of the next entrant, Test, whom he had developed an intense rivalry with over the WWE Hardcore Championship.

In the years that followed, Superstars would attempt to use Bossman's methods to help their own chances of winning the Rumble. In 2004, the Full Bloodied Italians' Nunzio sat at ringside, hoping no one would discover him there. Of course, John Cena did, rolling him into the ring and ending his night shortly thereafter.
