10 Most Universally Respected Wrestlers Ever

7. Ron Simmons

He may have been reduced to turning up every now and then to deliver a one-word catchphrase, but that doesn't mean Ron Simmons should be considered a joke. No, the former Faarooq Asad is one of the most respected individuals in the history of pro wrestling locker rooms.

Maybe that should be 'feared' as opposed to respected, although the two are somewhat indistinguishable. Simmons has a reputation for being one of the toughest men in the history of a particularly tough world, a locker room leader who would make the hard decisions at the hard times.

Simmons was part of a legendary tough guy tag team with JBL, the APA (Acolyte Protection Agency), but whereas JBL gained a reputation for being something of a bully, Simmons is widely respected in the professional wrestling world. The first ever African-American World Champion is a worthy member of the WWE Hall of Fame.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
