10 Most Unlikely Champions In WCW History

7. Jim Duggan

There was a time when 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan was one of the most popular names in all of wrestling. During his glory years in the WWF of the late-80's and early-90's, Duggan was a stalwart, someone the promotion could depend upon to pop a live crowd or put on a decent - if not a little zany - match. Always carrying his trusty 2x4, Hacksaw had audiences around the globe chanting 'USA', whether they were American or not! Joining WCW in 1994 once Hulk Hogan made the switch, Duggan would become the United States Champion, but that's not the unlikely part of his story. In '94, Duggan was still over, but the same can't be said for his later run in 1999-2000. In February of the new millennium, Hacksaw would find the TV Title literally in the bin, and would claim to be the champion. Scott Hall, the previous titleholder, had famously thrown the belt in the garbage on an episode of Nitro in November, '99, and Duggan would come across is months later on Thunder. Incredibly, Hall had tossed the strap in Denver, Colorado, and Hacksaw would find it in Pennsylvania, making this one of the most truly confusing title scenarios of all time.
