10 Most Unlikely WWE Intercontinental Champions Ever
9. Chyna
Make no mistake about it, Joanie 'Chyna' Laurer isn't featured on this list simply to shoehorn a woman in there, she just wasn't what people would consider a 'classic' Intercontinental Champion. Nonetheless, there was a time when Chyna was one of the most over performers in the entire business, something which was certainly the case when she did capture Intercontinental Championship gold. With that in mind, there's a great chance she wouldn't have held the belt as long as she had were it not for ongoing negotiation problems between Vince McMahon and Jeff Jarrett. With his contract running down and interest from WCW, Jarrett held out for more money from the then-WWF, only agreeing to drop the belt to Chyna at No Mercy in October, 1999 if he got a big wad of cash. McMahon stumped up the money, and Chyna captured the strap. From there, she'd lose it to Chris Jericho at Armageddon in December, before the pair confusingly became 'co-champions', an episode of Jericho's career that it's likely the Canadian would rather forget. Chyna wasn't the best from an in-ring perspective, and the argument from many that she was 'good for a woman' was a little insulting. There have been far better female wrestlers, but none have been given the opportunity to win the Intercontinental Title.
