10 Most Unwanted Records In WWE Royal Rumble History
5. Most Runners-up Spots
Big Show: 2 (2000 and 2004)
Earlier we established Bob Backlund and Chris Jericho as nearly-men of the Royal Rumble, but neither of them have made it to the final two only to lose on more than one occasion. The Big Show, on the other hand, very much has.
Big Show’s first taste of defeat at the final hurdle arrived in his Royal Rumble debut in 2000. There, he came up short against The Rock, although it wasn’t without controversy; a couple of weeks later on the 3 February showing of SmackDown, Big Show presented evidence that The Rock’s feet had in fact touched the floor first, but it was too late for the decision to be reversed.
Show’s second shortcoming was somewhat more decisive—in 2004, a resilient Benoit managed to hold on to heave the giant over the top rope and deny him at the death once more.
On a side note, Triple H and John Cena also have a pair of runners-up spots their names, but their redemption lies in the fact that they also boast two Rumble wins apiece, unlike the unfortunate Big Show.
