10 Must-See ECW Main Events

5. Sabu vs. Shane Douglas vs. Terry Funk (Hardcore Heaven 1997)

Sabu vs. Terry Funk vs. Shane Douglas has to go down as one of the most classic combinations in ECW history. A match from 1994 would help establish the three as being golden together (more on that later), but another Triple Threat bout involving the trio is equally as essential. Hardcore Heaven 1997 is fondly remembered as a night on which Jerry "The King" Lawler invaded the company, facing Tommy Dreamer in a truly unique inter-promotional match between the WWF and ECW. For weeks beforehand, ECW stars had appeared on Monday Night Raw, and reports since suggest that Vince McMahon was financially aiding the hardcore group. As memorable as Lawler's foray into the land of extreme was, the main event almost manages to surpass it. There's a case to be made that Lawler vs. Dreamer is the better bout, but the sheer history attached to Sabu, Funk and Douglas makes the Triple Threat match feel more weighty, certainly in the context of an ECW show. This one comes highly recommended, especially because it's available in brilliant quality on the WWE Network, obviously along with the rest of the Pay-Per-View.
