Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens was destined to disappoint a lot of fans who hoped their Clash of Champions match might be a new candidate for Match of the Year, mainly because it was always going to be the start of something rather than the end. The shenanigans coming during the climax could be seen from a mile away, creating for a tumultuous finish and the lack of a cleanly crowned victor.

In a match heavy on content fueled by purpose, and featuring innovation aplenty, Rollins and Owens staked their claim for the most interesting bout on the PPV card without giving away everything on the first attempt. It was a smart match spanning 25-minutes, incorporating similar pacing dynamics that aided Styles vs. Ambrose at Backlash, allowing for greater emphasis on character touche ultimately came. As with the feud leading up to it, Rollins vs. Owens was a match that asked a lot of questions, but did not give us all of the answers.

The Match of the Year contender is, in all likelihood, coming soon to a WWE PPV near you, but the first chapter in their rivalry certainly should not be underrated in its quality.
