10 Must-See WWE Dark Matches

9. Minnasota Stretching Crew Vs The Disciples Of Synn

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnihYTHGyYs Brock Lesnar is a wrestler renown for being a monster, absolutely destroying every rank of competition on his way to numerous WWE Championships. You'd think that teamwork isn't a word in his vocabulary, yet in his early days in OVW, he spent most of his time in training in the tag-team division, believe it or not. He was paired with Shelton Benjamin, as the two were familiar from their days at the University of Minnesota, and it was believed the two could help cover up each others flaws. Brock Lesnar presented the power and brawn, while Shelton had charisma, technicality and speed needed for a successful tag-team. In May 2001, the Minnesota Stretching Club met the Disciples of Synn in a dark match on Smackdown, for the OVW Southern Tag-Team Championship. Perhaps it's just because of how we think of Brock Lesnar in the modern era, but something about there's something about cream trunks, being a face and tag-team wrestling that doesn't suit him. Not to mention, it's hard to stress his power and dominance if he's forced to rely on a partner, it makes him seem weaker than if he was a solo competitor. All in all, not a bad match, with Shelton Benjamin stealing the show as usual. Given the fact this was a dark match, it's possible that WWE Creative were considering bringing the team of Lesnar and Benjamin onto the main roster together. As Lesnar was called to the main roster in November, 2001 in preparation for his debut in 2002, Shelton stayed in OVW and had to find a new tag-team partner. B.J Payne and Brian Logan of the Disciples of Synn never graduated to the main roster.
