10 New Directions For AEW After Revolution 2023
Is Tony Khan about to work things out with CM Punk after AEW Revolution?!
Revolution was a reminder that AEW, for all its flaws, still has a roster and in-ring product to salivate over. The company might be struggling to convince on weekly TV these days, but on pay-per-view? Christ, on pay-per-view All Elite Wrestling may well be untouchable in terms of high quality match after high quality match.
So, where does the booking go from here?
MJF convincingly defeated Bryan Danielson in an exhausting 60-minute 'Iron Man' epic, and now the biggest pr*ck to ever call that belt his will be looking around like that John Travolta meme wondering who's next to challenge. Tony Khan won't have to look far to find out who should be programmed opposite Friedman.
Sunday's show could've been named "AEW: Spring Cleaning" instead, because TK went above and beyond to make sure his OGs were the talk of the town in San Francisco. Of course, the boss also has to thrash things out in the women's division, the TNT Title scene (that could be awkward), the Trios Title pack and much, much more.
Here's where AEW's product goes next heading into Double Or Nothing.
10. House Of Black Finally Dominating
Worries that House Of Black would end the night looking more like The Butcher, Blade and Serpentico than viable challengers for the Trios straps were not without merit. AEW has wobbled more than once on Malakai's crew, so it was lovely to see them come away with the belts.
HOB might've been dead in the water had they lost.
The six-man was a typically hot match that had a lot of talent on show, but the big story is obviously Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks dropping their titles. AEW's next hurdle will be giving House Of Black some great challengers they can work with on TV, and maybe moving away from The Elite as division spearheads.
That'd be a brave move, but it'd be the right call. Obviously, Tony Khan can revisit this and book Omega and The Bucks as revenge-hungry final bosses for HOB down the road, but not for a while. It's important that Malakai, Buddy Matthews and Brody King get some consistency.
