Brand extension? What brand extension?

It's taken WWE less than two years to lose interest in a definitive split between Raw and SmackDown. There were cracks in the system before, sure, but at least both rosters had their own pay-per-view schedules for the most part and operated under the illusion they were competing against one another.

That's no longer the case. From Backlash onwards, every supershow will be co-branded again, and it could only be a matter of time before WWE choose to scrap the brand split for good and return to the old way of doing things. If so, that'd be a nightmare for lower-tier talent who find it hard to get pay-per-view minutes as it is.

Fastlane, a SmackDown-branded show, was the last under the single-brand format for a while - at least, that is, until WWE change their minds again.
