10 New Generation-Era WWE Stars You Totally Don't Remember

All hail The Pug.

Let's be honest, the WWE New Generation Era isn't remembered with a great deal of fondness. It was a strange time for what was then the World Wrestling Federation, a time of transition and experimentation. The steroid scandal of 1991 had hit business hard, and as a result Vince McMahon was left with no choice but to push a new generation of superstars to the top of his company.

Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage and the many others who had marshaled the company through the 1980s wrestling boom were gone, and in their place came Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Diesel, Razor Ramon, The Undertaker, and others. Muscle-bound monsters were out, drug test-friendly (well, steroid test at least) faces were in.

Occupational gimmicks were also in, and boy did the creative team try out a lot of them. As bad as that sounds, this was nevertheless the time my personal wrestling fandom really kicked into high gear, and as such I remember men such as Duke 'The Dumpster' Droese and Repo Man with genuine love. Heck, I even remember The Goon and T.L. Hopper with something approaching fondness.

But certain men had genuine blink or you'll miss it runs in WWE during the New Generation. If you're my age, you may remember these guys, but only in that wide-eyed,"oh yeah, that guy!" sort of way. Long live the New Generation!

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
