2. 'Dr. Death' Steve Williams
A legend of the Japanese wrestling scene, Williams was brought into the WWF by his old friend Jim Ross, who was convinced that this was the guy that would take on the companys new babyface hero, Stone Cold Steve Austin in a main event feud. In the end, the two men didnt even lock up: Dr. Deaths intended introduction to the WWF faithful, the amateurish shoot tournament Brawl For All, became one of the most infamously botched concepts in WWF/E history, and not only destroyed Williams debut, but his WWF career, too. Why on earth WWE felt that a legit contest on a worked product would entertain fans, or that theyd be able to control the outcome when there was a £100,000 prize at stake for the winner, is beyond well, anyone. There is no one, anywhere in the world who understands it. Even the people who booked it are baffled. Williams was genuinely knocked out by Bart Gunn, the lower-card underdog, and also tore a hamstring, adding injury to insult. He was among several competitors in the tournament who suffered serious injury. Any momentum Dr. Death had was completely derailed, and once he returned from injury the time to build him up again had passed, and Austin had moved on to other opponents.
