10 Next Generation Wrestlers You Didn't Know About

9. Tully Blanchard

The son of former wrestler and promoter Joe Blanchard, Tully was raised in the wrestling business €“ he€™d sell programs and drinks and snacks at American Wrestling Association events from the age of ten, and later worked as a referee: both roles that wrestling fathers would traditionally press upon sons that aimed to follow them into the family business. Joe would insist that Tully complete college before becoming a wrestler, however. Tully went to West Texas State University and played football with Ted DiBiase and Tito Santana before graduating and immediately training to become a wrestler. Working for his father€™s Southwest Championship Wrestling in San Antonio, Tully would become a firm fan favourite as well as occupying backstage production roles. He€™d feud with Dory and Terry Funk, teaming with his father Joe, until the NWA beckoned and Tully Blanchard became a singles star, facing luminaries like the late €˜American Dream€™ Dusty Rhodes (who was also trained by Joltin€™ Joe Blanchard) for the big belt. He€™d later become renowned for his membership in the definitive line-up of the Four Horsemen with Ric Flair, Ole Anderson and Arn Anderson, a role that would earn him a WWE Hall Of Fame ring in 2012, nine days after his father Joe€™s death from cancer.
