Let's go leftfield here.

There is almost a presumption that Connor McGregor will eventually find his way to WWE, but most seem to speculate that Notorious will do so as an active wrestler. It worked for Ronda Rousey, why not McGregor?

That is a question for a different day but why not usher McGregor down the Pat McAfee route instead? Yes, McAfee has been an active competitor since making his NXT debut but he has been held back for big matches and big spots, a part-time wrestler and full-time talker. McGregor is one of the great hype men of modern times, across all sports, and WWE would be best-served to utilise his strengths while giving him time to learn the ropes in the background.

Sign McGregor, give him a stable of violence merchants and a microphone, and you've got yourself a licence to print money. WWE has no problem printing money at the moment but the multi-weight UFC Champion is must-see television and has been for years. Love him or hate him, Connor McGregor is a megastar. WWE needs such things.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
