4. CM Punk And “Dr Death” Steve Williams Have The Same MMA Record

How often do you think about CM Punk's career in mixed martial arts?

If you said anything other than "Never," then you must be a big fan. Punk lost to Mickey Gall in his first showdown in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, then found himself unanimously defeated by Mike Jackson in his last. The Jackson fight would be ruled a no contest a few years later, after Jackson tested positive for marijuana (the straight edge lifestyle wins again) and the win was stripped away from him.

That left the Chick Magnet with a record of one loss and a no contest... so one loss. No wonder he went back to wrestling a few years later...

The late "Dr. Death" Steve Williams did just as well. After trying his hand at American football, Williams wrestled all over the world, then decided to have a go at MMA. He lost his only match to four-time Muay Thai World champion Alexey Ignashov at K-1 Beast 2004 in Niigata. Unfortunately, Steve was diagnosed with cancer shortly after the loss, so he had to retire almost as soon as he started.

With a record of one loss each, these two former WWE superstars are tied together with the unenviable achievement of having tried out in MMA, then realising it's a different world to that of wrestling.

Interestingly, Ignashov fought two other MMA matches; both were against Shinsuke Nakamura. It really is a small world for grapplers.

When I'm not trying my hardest to visit all 50 U.S. states, I'm listening to music from the 80s, watching TV from the 90s, and reminiscing about growing up in the 00s. I'm currently living in Melbourne, Australia so WWE premium live events are on Sunday afternoons for me; the absolute dream.
