10 Obscure WWE SummerSlam Facts You Didn't Know

5. The Show Starter...And Ender

Only once has a talent of both opening and closing a single SummerSlam show-- Alberto Del Rio in 2011. After winning the 2011 Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank, Del Rio was in the midst of one of the most impressive first years in company history, one that also included a WrestleMania title match. After not grabbing the proverbial brass ring in his attempts at the World Heavyweight Title, Del Rio almost seemed without direction, as he was placed in a 6-man tag match to open Summerslam 2011. Del Rio, along with R-Truth and the Miz were defeated by John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, and Rey Mysterio in just under 10 minutes during the evening's curtain jerker. Del Rio, however wasn't done, as he emerged from backstage following CM Punk's WWE Title victory over John Cena, and cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase. Del Rio was victorious, and began his first of four world title reigns, making his already unbelievable year even more impressive.
