10 Occupational Gimmicks From WWE's PG Era

7. Ricardo Rodriguez - Personal Ring Announcer

A bit of a meta one this. When Alberto Del Rio finally arrived in WWE it wasn't Del Rio that most people were excited by. No, it was his personal ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez that did most of the work in getting the Mexican Aristocrat over. Del Rio was great in the ring, but it was the over-the-top stylings of Rodriguez that covered the hard yards.

So what we have here is an occupational gimmick of a character within the wrestling world. Does that make sense? It is as if there was a personal referee, a personal time-keeper, or even a personal commentator. It showcases an arrogance that adds credence to most heel characters.

Rodriguez was great in the role too, and it was a huge shame when the two went their separate ways.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
