10 Oddest Rules In Wrestling

1. Texas Tornado Toughman Rules

"Texas Tornado" rules are, strictly speaking, just a gimmicked name for a very ordinary tag team match rule, whereby instead of having to tag each other in, all members of every participating tag team in the match are allowed to be in the ring at any one time. Edge & Christian, the Hardy Boyz and the Dudley Boyz would be the ones to take advantage of this slight variation in normal tag match rules in their historic first ever TLC match at Summerslam 2000. Memphis' United States Wrestling Association and Ohio's Absolutely Intense Wrestling, however, go one better than the bog standard Texas Tornado rule: the Texas Tornado Toughman Rule. The gimmick goes that the match proceeds as per normal Texas Tornado tag match rules until one team gains a pinfall. At that point, the man who made the pin gets to choose a guy from the opposing team, who then gets beaten to a pulp by the entirety of the pinning man's team for a full 60 seconds. After the minute expires, if the poor man can't stand up to answer the referee's count to ten, then his team loses the match. If he manages to make it to his feet in time, however, the match simply continues until the next pinfall, and so on and so on, until the final man to suffer the beatdown doesn't get up in time, and loses the match for his team. You can feel free to go back and re-read that again if you like. It's fairly insane. Still with us? The Texas Tornado Toughman Rule can be enacted in three-on-three or four-on-four tag team matches, or theoretically even under Triple Threat style rules for maximum carnage. We can't honestly see how a live audience could follow it properly, let alone a referee! What's your favourite oddball professional wrestling rule? Do you have an eleventh for our list? Tell us all about it in the comments!
