10 Oldest Pro Wrestlers To Ever Compete
Wrestlers need to be at least 72 years of age just to make this list!
The WWE ring has been occupied by many older wrestlers throughout the years. Men and women in their seventieth and even eightieth decade have still found the physical resolve to lace up a pair of boots and wrestle.
Part of this is down to the nature of the business. Pro wrestling hasn't always been as financially lucrative as it is today, so many wrestlers from a bygone era needed to keep on working into their elderly years. There's also the fact that pro wrestling has always provided a limelight for naturally attention seeking personalities. It is hard to leave the ring when you become accustomed to it as your place of adoration. Hundreds and sometimes thousands of fans attend wrestling shows. They chant wrestler names and tell the talent "You are awesome", creating an atmosphere and adrenaline rush that has been described as an addictive drug.
Although logic dictates that physical ageing should limit a pro wrestler, there's actually been many wrestlers who enjoyed critical and commercial success in old age. The art of working and selling should never hinge on over the top athleticism, it should always be in-ring psychology that's at the core of a wrestling match.
The following wrestlers, from across the spectrum of the industry, are the ten oldest wrestlers to ever compete.
10. Mae Young
Rating: 87
Mae Young was an astonishing 87 years old when she wrestled for the last time in 2010, pinning WWE's Layla with a foot to the chest.
She's widely regarded as the toughest woman to ever compete. In fact, some call her one of the toughest wrestlers ever, regardless of gender. She came up in an era of gangsters and hustlers, in a career that started in 1939.
By the late 90's and 2000's she was a comedy act in the WWF. The fact that Vince McMahon kept her employed was proof of just how much respect the star commanded.
