10 Over-Hyped Wrestling Main Events NOBODY Even Remembers Now

4. Rowdy Roddy Piper Vs Jerry Lawler (WWE King Of The Ring 1994)

The worst possible type of match taking place on the worst possible night to host it, Roddy Piper and Jerry Lawler's bells-and-whistles shortcut knockabout was the polar opposite of the "New Generation" ethos the announcers constantly harped on about during King Of The Ring 1994.

Taking place less than a month before Hulk Hogan debuted for WCW and deep in the guts of a steroid trial that had seemingly ripped apart 'The Hulkster' and Vince McMahon's relationship for good, the youth movement campaign relegated Hogan to dinosaur status alongside wrestlers that had last appeared for the group before colour TV. Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, King Of The Ring winner Owen Hart and co-headliners Bret Hart and Diesel were evidence of the enforced changes, unlike the evening's rancid main event.

Piper and Lawler engaged in a laborious and dated slugfest playing out to an audience that had otherwise been engaged for most of the night. It made hypocrites of the commentators and a laughing stock of promotion in front of the diminished audience still tuning in.
