At one point in time, it looked like Paul Levesque was a solid bet to be the one to take the reins when Vince McMahon's time running WWE comes to a close. These days, not so much.

With NXT, the Game had crafted the most engaging, entertaining, sports-like brand under the WWE banner. This was must-see viewing every single week, with so many talents honing their craft and being viewed as a future bona fide main event main roster stars.

Of course, after the 'war' was lost and AEW Dynamite decimated NXT on a weekly basis, we'd see NXT revamped from the ground up amidst reports that Vince and his yes men were irked at Levesque's baby getting its behind kicked by a rival who McMahon himself had said was not a rival.

While all of this goes against Triple H taking over from Vince, one other element to take into consideration is Levesque's recent health scare. Given the insane workload it would require to take over from McMahon, that sort of 24/7 laser-focus might not be all that appealing an option for somebody who's had to deal with a "cardiac event".
