10 Plain Wrong Wrestling Myths Perpetuated By The IWC
5. Crowd Chants Are THEMSELVES Awesome
Should a fan be allowed to chant whatever they like, purely because they paid the privilege to do so? They paid the privilege to watch the show - not to be a part of it.
The Full Sail crowd are the worst offenders, and their influence has been pervasive, but it was the Izod Centre crowd, post-WrestleMania 29, who initiated the trend proper. Nonsensically chanting for ECW and Macho Man Randy Savage, the fans in attendance probably didn't realise they were changing wrestling for the worse.
They even had the audacity to chant "We are awesome!"
Self-styled comedian crowds ruin wrestling matches for the home audience and for themselves. They're not just attempting to get themselves over at the expense of the talent - they're distracting from the matches entirely.
When watching a talent with the gifts of Shinsuke Nakamura, it isn't respectful to start singing his theme tune as he's locking up. It's the opposite. Nakamura isn't just going through the motions during those initial lock-ups and tentative exchanges, waiting to hit his moves.
He's trying to tell a story while some idiots are obnoxiously ripping out the pages.
The space between moves, and psychological nuance, is being lost in a sea of self-indulgence. If you want to watch a highlight reel, wait until somebody uploads one on YouTube.
You might even spot yourself in the audience!
