10 Podcast Questions Stone Cold Steve Austin Must Ask Vince McMahon

10. What Really Happened With Austin's 2002 Walkout?

Anyone who is a regular listener to The Steve Austin Show will be well aware of this issue from 2002. Steve walked out on WWE after becoming unhappy with the direction his character was taking. The tipping point came when 'creative' wanted Austin to job to Brock Lesnar on Raw, causing Austin to literally stand up and fly home, abandoning the broadcast. Steve then failed to show for a few more shows in 2002 which lead to WWE releasing one of their Confidential Series which completing buried their leading star. On the podcast, Austin claims he walked because he felt the move wasn't right for business. He felt a superstar of his standing losing to a relative newcomer to the main roster was PPV material and WWE could have made a tonne of money from a long feud. Perhaps Austin's pride took a severe blow, who knows, we'll have to take his word for it. According to Austin's long time friend Jim Ross, on his own Ross Report podcast, the walk out was the final nail in his career's coffin. It will be interesting the hear how the event unfolded from a management standpoint, how far was Austin from being fired? They have to deal with the episode of Confidential also. We need to hear why they felt the need to release it and did Vince really believe what he was saying during the show? We know Austin is remorseful and would have dealt with the situation differently, would McMahon have done the same?
